Fun Diving in Unawatuna
Season: October – April
Located on the sheltered south coast, Unawatuna offers calm seas, warm water, and great visibility during the season. Here, you’ll explore vibrant coral gardens alive with angelfish, lionfish, and parrotfish, as well as the legendary Rangoon Wreck — a 19th-century British ship resting 30 metres below.
Dive Highlights
- Historic wrecks like the Rangoon and Orestes
- Shallow reefs perfect for relaxed exploration and photography
- Gentle currents suitable for all certified divers
- Abundant marine life, from moray eels to schooling barracuda
Imagine descending through clear blue water until the outline of a wreck appears beneath you — a time capsule from another century, now home to hundreds of fish. That’s Unawatuna diving.
Fun Diving in Trincomalee
Season: April – October
On the opposite coast, Trincomalee offers a completely different underwater world. Famous for its crystal-clear waters and dramatic rock formations, you can dive sites like Swami Rock, White Rock, and the coral-rich Famous Navi Museum of Trincomalee. Encounters with reef sharks, rays, and sea turtles are common here.
Dive Highlights:
- Pelagic encounters including reef sharks and rays
- Healthy coral reefs teeming with tropical fish
- Underwater caves and dramatic rock formations
- Ideal seasonal conditions for warm, calm dives
Picture yourself gliding alongside a green sea turtle as sunlight filters through coral arches — it’s the kind of dive you’ll remember for years.
